UNESCO National Commission Conducts a Monitoring Visit in Ifugao

On 27-28 March 2014, UNESCO NatComheaded by Secretary-General Virginia A. Miralao,conducted a monitoring visit to the province of Ifugao to discuss with the Provincial Government the state of conservation report of theRice Terraces of the Philippine Cordillera.

The National Commission was received by Ifugao Governor Denis Habawel and shared his vision on the preservation of the Rice Terraces. UNACOM also met with the key offices of the Provincial Government of Ifugao namely, Provincial Governor’s Office, Provincial Planning

and Development Office, Ifugao Cultural Heritage Office (ICHO), Provincial Engineering, Provincial Tourism Office,and Provincial Agriculture Environment and Natural Resources Office (PAENRO). The meeting updated different programs and projects of both parties and tackled different concerns regarding the future of the Rice Terraces.
