Photo exhibition: “Protecting UNESCO’s Marine World Heritage through scientific research”

UNESCO launched a photo exhibition entitled “Protecting UNESCO’s Marine World Heritage through scientific research” at the UNESCO headquarters from 07 October 2020 to 30 October 2020. 

The photo exhibition was prepared in collaboration with the Monaco Explorations Campaign in the framework of the partnership agreement between UNESCO (World Heritage Marine Programme) and the Principality of Monaco. The exhibit shall feature photographs taken by the Monaco Exp/orations during a scientific exploration in the following UNESCO World Heritage marine sites, including PH:

1. Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park (Philippines, 2016);
2. Malpelo Fauna and Flora Sanctuary (Colombia, 2016);
3. Rock Islands Southern Lagoon (Palau, 2019); and
4. Lagoons of New Caledonia: Reef Diversity and Associated Ecosystems (France, 2019).

This exhibition was developed in the framework of the forthcoming United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). This Decade is coordinated by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO and aims to catalyze global investments in ocean science to ensure that ocean science can fully support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
