Officials from the Philippine National Commission for UNESCO (also known as UNACOM) visited the National Museum of the Philippines-Dumaguete as part of their site validation for Dumaguete City’s bid in 2025 to be part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) as a City of Literature.⁣

As a key stakeholder in preserving and promoting Dumaguete’s literary heritage, NMP-Dumaguete remains committed to fostering a deeper appreciation of literature and the arts through its public programs and activities. By celebrating the city’s rich literary tradition, the museum supports initiatives that highlight the role of storytelling, poetry, and other written works in shaping cultural identity and inspiring future generations. ⁣

The UCCN recognizes cities worldwide for their commitment to creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable development. It includes eight sectors: Architecture, Crafts and Folk Art, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Media Arts, and Music.⁣

To date, the Philippines has three cities under this network—Baguio City for Crafts and Folk Art (2017), Cebu City for Design (2019), and Iloilo City for Gastronomy (2023). ⁣
