UNACOM participates in the National Consultation in preparation for the UN Transforming Education Summit (TES)

The UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines, along with members of the Education Forum from government agencies, Civil Society Organizations, Development Partners, Non-government Organizations, Private School Organizations, Higher Education Institutions, and Research Institutions, participated in the 1 st Leg of the National Consultation in preparation for the Transforming Education Summit (TES) in Baguio City on 14 June 2022. This initiative was supported by the UN Resident Coordinator, UNICEF, and UNESCO.

The Transforming Education Summit (TES), which will convene in September 2022 on the sidelines of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly aims to re-energize national and international initiatives and re-envision education systems for the 21st century and future, among others.

The President designated Vice President Sara Duterte in her capacity as Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) as National Convenor to oversee the consultations in developing a shared vision, commitment, and alignment of action across stakeholders to transform education. It may be noted that prior to the designation, DepEd created an interim TES National Convening Committee that convened a national consultation to discuss key issues
and challenges, as well as crucial TES 2022-aligned action points.

In the breakout sessions of said Consultation, UNACOM participated in discussions on the Learning and Skills for Life, Work, and Sustainable Development and Digital Learning and Transformation Thematic Action Tracks, that tackled programs, projects, and the difficulties, opportunities, and recommendations for continual reskilling and upskilling for increasingly competitive labor markets impacted by rising digitization, digitalization, and greening of
economies.
